Please Forgive My Absence. I have (personal) news.

Crossposted at the Motley Moose

I am engaged to be married.  The most wonderful girl in the world has agreed to be my wife, and I could not possibly be any happier about it than I am.  The heavens have parted, a single beam of light has been cast down, and all is right in the world.

On day two of our six day trip to Disney World we had dinner at the delightful California Grill, which is atop the Contemporary Resort (cool building, the Monorail runs through it).  After a fantastic dinner we went out to the observation deck (amazingly nobody else went out there) with our bottle of merlot and waited for the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom.  I found the courage to ask the question, and she said yes.  I knew that she would, but it was still a huge thing that she actually did.

My parents have been extremely supportive and pleased.  Her parents have been positive.  We're looking at a year or so long engagement.  I've got to wait that long because one of my best friends is in Iraq and we're waiting for his return.  Also, I will take the bar in July and I want that in my rear-view mirror by the time we get hitched.

I leave this place for one lousy week and the economy goes to hell, McCain falls behind in North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida, and Wachovia gets eaten by Citi.

No more breaks, I guess.

I got engaged in May, it will likely be another year or more for me as well. Oh well. At least when I want a house, the prices will be lower.

Sounds tooo fun.

Good you are back, and you can take my place. I'm off to LA for the week: family, relatives, take the kids to disneyland, maybe go out into the desert for a couple of days.

Congrats... much happiness to you (2.00 / 4)

I hope you start your marriage under a Democratic Administration. It's depressing raising children with the GOP in power.

I was on my honeymoon in India when Bush/Gore was going down (we honestly thought that the India news services were getting the story wrong when Florida switched back to "too close to call"!)

I was nursing my 6 month old twins as I watched the returns which ushered in Bush's 2nd term.

May you and your lovely wife see those milestones (well, maybe not the twins part!) under President Obama.

Tell me about it. Our daughter has only been alive for three weeks with anyone but Bush as President; our son, none at all.

The election can't come fast enough.

Congrats Reaper. My wife and I are having a second baby due at Christmas. AND we just closed on a new house last week. I think we were the only people on the planet closing on a house last week. So I also know about stakes in the future. Crazy times, but all the more reason to get Barack elected.

Congratulations on you engagement. That is awesome!

I see that you are in law school - which law school and what state bar exam are you talking? What area of law are you planning to practice in?

I practice patent law in Chicago.

Re: I have (personal) news. (2.00 / 1)

I am a student at the University of Akron.  I expect to take the Pennsylvania bar and move to Pittsburgh.

Know anybody out that way?  My GPA ain't hot at all (pretty terrible, actually), but I hear that only matters at the start.  What you actually do with your first job seems to matter more.  I certainly hope that's true.

Mazel Tov! (none / 0)

I sympathize with you on the "long engagement" thing...I got enagaged in March, and won't be married until next August because he doesn't graduate college until June.  (Seriously, how rude of him!) So I'm currently managing a long (and long-distance) enagagement myself.  Argh!

But major congo rats to you! Your absence is excused...this time. :-)
